New Delhi [India]24 November (ANI): At the invitation of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Indonesia’s top minister Dr Mohammed Mahfud MD will be in Delhi next week.

Dr. Mohammed Mahfud is the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of Indonesia. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation from Ulema.
Ulema, who came from Indonesia on November 28th, will also be interacting with her Indian counterpart. The discussion will be on ‘The role of Ulema in fostering a culture of interreligious peace and social harmony in India and Indonesia’.

“The Ulema plays a very important role in Islamic society and the purpose of such discussions is to promote tolerance, harmony and peaceful coexistence, and to advance cooperation to counter violent extremism and radicalization. It is to bring together ulemas and scholars from India and Indonesia who can do it,” a source told ANI.
There will be three sessions, the first on Islam: Continuity and Change, the second on Interreligious Social Harmony: Practices and Experiences, and the last on Countering Radicalization and Extremism in India and Indonesia.
During the visit, Ulema from Indonesia will also interact with other religious leaders.
NSA Doval will deliver opening and closing remarks, and a joint statement will also be released at the end of the visit.
Indonesia has the world’s largest Muslim population, and India is home to the second largest Muslim population in the world.
NSA Doval visited Indonesia in March this year for the second India-Indonesia Security Dialogue. The NSA then invited his Minister Mehfud to India. (Ani)
